DEER PARK, Texas – Commissioner Jack Morman and Deer Park Mayor Jerry Mouton Jr. announced the start of construction on Ivy Avenue for Tuesday, May 30th. The $1.3 million project will reconstruct the 2-lane concrete roadway to include a sidewalk, on-street parallel parking, and storm sewer drainage from E 8th Street to just north of 1st Street.

The roadway will remain open for the duration of construction; however, roadwork will require single-lane closures. “Impacts on school traffic is a concern of ours,” said Commissioner Morman. “We are working with the contractors to ensure that by the time the next school year begins, two lanes closest to the school will be open.”

Construction is expected to be complete early fourth quarter of this year. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes or plan their commutes accordingly.

“I’d like to thank Mayor Mouton and Deer Park ISD, as they have been great partners in the development of this project. We look forward to continuing this relationship,” said Commissioner Morman.

The Precinct and City are also working together on improvements to Durant Avenue from Spencer Highway to Coy Drive. Construction is expected to begin this quarter. More details will follow soon.
