About Precinct2gether

The East Harris County Senior Citizens (EHCSC) program was founded in 1975 as a response to the needs of the citizens of Precinct Two. County funding was not available for certain services, therefore a non-profit organization was formed with funds from donations and fundraisers. In 1983, the program was expanded to encompass citizens residing in nursing homes. In November 2007, an Amendment to the Articles of Incorporation was filed formally changing the name of the organization to Precinct2gether, Inc., thereby broadening its scope of community services.

A 11 - member Board of Directors oversees this 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

Our nursing home outreach began in 1983 with 12 nursing homes. Today it serves 22 nursing homes with over 2,800 residents. The Nursing Home Program is designed to improve the quality of life for the residents in long-term care facilities by bringing the community into the nursing homes.

We offer domino tournaments, Nursing Home Olympics, day trips, a variety of parties, and an annual pageant.

Staff also makes special visits to bed-confined residents.

In addition, we provide support to a networking organization, the East Harris County Activity Professional Association, which meets monthly on various aspects of geriatrics and long-term care. At these meetings activity directors and social workers are able to earn continuing education units required by the State of Texas.

Summer Day Camp

The *Precinct2gether Summer Day Camp Program operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM beginning in mid-June through the end of July. The admittance of youth for the Summer Program is first come, first served and parents can register their child at whichever site is closest to their residence. We accept students who will be going into the second grade through eighth grade for our summer sessions. The student does not have to be enrolled at that school in order to attend that Summer Day Camp Program. We just ask that the parents be able to transport the child to and from that site each day for the duration of camp. During the Summer Day Camp Program we cover academic concepts in order to curtail learning loss over the summer months; however, this is a time when we are able to provide more recreational activities to our participants through specialized programming, field trips, games, cultural experiences and other exciting opportunities.

Each Summer Day Camp Program has a Site Coordinator responsible for general program operations, coordination of activities, supervision of staff and grant reporting. Our staff is comprised of instructors, aides and youth counselors that work collectively to implement quality programming for our youth participants.

Our six week program focuses on individual exploration and participation, group activities, weekly field trips, art projects, appreciation of nature and cultural experiences as well as music. Participants enjoy the camp's safe, nurturing environment that helps foster creative fun and learning in our student participants. These summer activities may vary by site depending on grant support. Field trips are planned based on grant funding.

Precinct2gether Youth Program provides a safe and secure environment for your child during the summer months where they can make new friends and be presented with exciting new opportunities.

After School Program

The Precinct2gether After - School Program operates Monday through Thursday from *3:30 PM to 6:00 PM beginning in mid-September through the end of March.  Even though we possess a strong academic component to assist students in achieving skills necessary for TAAS/TAKS testing success; we also provide unique specialized programs designed to provide children with the life skills they need to succeed in today’s complex world.

Each After - School Program has a Site Coordinator or certified “Lead Teacher” responsible for general program operations, coordination of activities, supervision of staff and grant reporting.  Our staff is comprised of certified instructors, aides and youth counselors that work collectively to implement quality programming for our youth participants.  Precinct2gether Youth Program provides a strong academic component in which staff works with students to not only complete homework assignments but to ensure that the concepts learned throughout the day are reinforced during these homework sessions.   When hiring staff, we find instructors who can provide academic support in reading & language, science, social studies and mathematics.

Once the homework session is completed, we have the students participate in various enrichment activities such as arts & crafts, health, technology, physical fitness and other recreational opportunities.  These enrichment activities may vary by site depending on grant support.  Periodic field trips are planned based on grant funding.

Precinct2gether Youth Program provides a safe and secure environment for your child after school where they can acquire a passion for learning that will last a lifetime.

    Community Programs

chit-chat-issuePrecinct2gether provides veterans, seniors and youth with services not traditionally funded by county government taxpayers. For example, the summer youth program helps youngsters with educational activities in Precinct 2 Community Centers and the nursing home program tends to the needs of seniors who often have no family members in town to provide companionship or special attention.
