Leonel J. Castillo Community Center

Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner, Jack Morman, has made the determination to redevelop Robert E. Lee Elementary School into the Leonel Castillo Community Center using Federal funds from the General Land Office (GLO).  Robert E. Lee Elementary was determined to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing resource in the Near Northside National Register District in November, 2010, and is, therefore, a historic property.  The building was constructed in 1919-1920 and designed by architect Alfred Charles Finn, who is widely known for his design of the San Jacinto Memorial Battleground Monument in 1935.
