Congratulations to Lynchburg Ferry deckhands James Davis, Billy Duggan, and Gregory Jackson for passing the United States Coast Guard (USCG) 100 Ton Inland Captain’s License Examination. After nearly six months of studying for the rigorous 6-part exam, they are now licensed to pilot the Lynchburg Ferries across the Ship Channel.

It truly was a team effort as James Davis volunteered his time to tutor his peers and help them obtain their passing scores. He has even committed to tutoring the remaining deckhands in preparation for their test.

Adding three licensed pilots benefits Ferry operations greatly by making it more viable in the long-run. We are able to line staff up for promotions in the event of emergencies and even those who plan to retire.

Great job, James, Billy, and Gregory! Your hard work has paid off, and we couldn’t be more proud!
