Q&A with Armando Arellano, Precinct 2's Fleet Director

1. Describe how your role and how it impacts the lives of Precinct 2 residents.
As Fleet Director, I oversee the vehicles and equipment that keep county services running—from emergency response units to maintenance trucks. When our fleet is reliable, deputies can respond faster, roads are repaired more quickly, and public spaces are maintained consistently. My role is largely behind the scenes, but it directly supports the safety, mobility, and quality of life for Precinct 2 residents every day.
2. Can you describe a moment while working for Precinct 2 when you really felt the impact of your work?
After a major storm event, our team worked around the clock to keep emergency and recovery vehicles operational. Seeing crews' clear debris, restore access to neighborhoods, and assist residents—knowing those efforts depended on equipment we maintained—was a powerful reminder that our work enables critical services when people need them most.

3. In April we observe Earth Day and Commissioner Garcia has championed many initiatives to make Harris County more sustainable including transitioning to electric vehicles. Describe your role in this effort and how it benefits our residents.
I help lead the transition of our fleet toward electric and hybrid vehicles by evaluating vehicle suitability, managing procurement, and coordinating charging infrastructure. This shift reduces fuel costs, lowers emissions, and improves air quality. For residents, that means cleaner neighborhoods, quieter streets, and a more efficient use of taxpayer dollars over time.
4. In observance of Earth Day, what is your favorite Precinct 2 park and why.
My favorite is Sylvan Beach Park. My family and I have a long history there, especially on weekends, with many memories of fishing trips together. It offers a unique mix of coastal views, family-friendly amenities, and community events, and it’s a place where you can see firsthand how well-maintained public spaces bring people together.
