Q&A with Sarah Kloesel, Precinct 2’s Lifeguard Coordinator

1. Describe your role and how it impacts Precinct 2 residents.
My current role is the lifeguard coordinator at Sylvan beach, I have been a lifeguard here for over 8 years and been coordinator since 2020. I help ensure patrons are all safe and accounted for in the water as well as ensure that all lifeguards are up to date on their certifications, trainings, and skills. We impact the community by enforcing rules and regulations to keep all swimmers safe at Sylvan Beach Park.
2. What do you enjoy most about your job or what is the most rewarding experience you’ve had in your role?
The most rewarding things about my job is the relationships we form with our co-workers and the patrons. It is always a rewarding moment when people come up and thank us for watching them and keeping everyone safe in the water. It is very rewarding to know that people notice how hard we work in ensuring beach safety for all.
3. July is Parks and Recreation Month. What is your favorite part about working at Sylvan Beach?
My favorite thing about working at the park is the teamwork that all the lifeguards put together to ensure a safe and good watch. We work together, communicate, and ensure the safety of everyone together. My team of lifeguards help make our job effective and enjoyable.
4. Summer is also an important time to remind people about water safety. What are some key reminders you’d like to share with people as they enjoy time at the beach this summer?
Always be sure to follow lifeguard rules, even if you do not see them posted anywhere. We are there to make sure you are having a safe and fun experience at the beach. We are always willing to talk and explain any rules, but know everything is there for your safety! And always wear sunscreen and stay hydrated! Never be afraid to go to a lifeguard for help of any kind -- we are there to help you!
